The world of skiing and snowboarding is more in trend than ever. Children (and also teenagers) are getting into these sports earlier and earlier, and it is important to know the necessary materials to enter this skiing world.
If you’ve never skied before or are a “white belt” in the world of snow sports, here are some things to consider before you dive into the world of skiing or snowboarding, along with the equipment you’ll need to practice these disciplines.
Skiing essentials:
The first and most important thing is to have the desire. There is nothing to do without it. If your boyfriend/girlfriend, friend or family member is the one who “forces” you to put on your skis, it’s better not to put them on, and enjoy other activities in the snow. Although we recommend you try it before you back out, you won’t regret it!
Patience. Another very important thing to remember is that you won’t ski perfectly the first time, don’t get frustrated with the first few falls, there will be many more but don’t worry, the snow is soft (we are telling you from experience), and you will improve quickly. Before you know it you will be an expert.
You see, the most important thing has nothing to do with money.
That said, what materials do I need to get started on skiing?
Look the must have materials for skiing:
- Skis or a snowboard are a must. For first-timers, it is advisable to rent or borrow them, as long as they are your size. Don’t have the impulse and the illusion to go out and buy the coolest skis you can find.
- Boots, like skis, rent from our website or borrow them. These are a bit more personal than skis as they need to fit your feet properly to prevent injury. The way to find out if the boots are your size and if they fit your feet is: with the boots on, stand up straight and the toe should touch the edge of the boot slightly, then bend your knees and lean your body forward a little; if it doesn’t touch you and your foot isn’t loose inside the boot, you’ve got the right size.
- Snow trousers and coat or jacket. They must be made of a material suitable for snow, that is waterproof and at the same time protects you from the cold. In this case, you can find second-hand or off-season ski clothing at really low prices.
- Helmet, goggles and gloves. The first one is essential and even more so if you are a beginner, safety comes first and protecting your head from any fall is important. Goggles will help you to keep the sun out of your eyes because even if you don’t notice it, the sun hits you in the mountains. Plus there’s the snow factor that makes it reflect the sun even more. The gloves will help protect you from the cold and especially in your first falls.
If you are looking for a complete package for your next trip to the snow, visit our website and book yours, so we will have it ready for you when you arrive.
Last but not least, bring sun cream. As we have already mentioned, in the mountains the sun also hits and is reflected in the snow. Even if you don’t feel warm because of the cold, the sun is there and can cause sunburn, just like on the beach.
The right outfit for snow sports is always “onion style”, i.e. layered. We recommend wearing a comfortable T-shirt; a jumper, sweatshirt or similar; and a waterproof winter jacket. The latter will be easier for you to obtain, as they are likely to be items that you use more regularly and can be found in your wardrobe. Some athletes choose to add a vest, but this depends on your preferences and habits.
